Maqamat is based on a 6 months study on sacred geometries of Egyptian mosques and churches, reinterpreting their forms into 3D-printed new media sculptures and a projection installation.
Vacuum-sealed in plastic and animated through projection art, the sculptures are a product of 273 hours of 3D printing.
Blending historical patterns with a diasporic perspective, Maqamat is composed of sculptural designs that reflect continuity and transformation. The series unfolds as a progression, with each piece representing a stage in a journey: exploring themes of transformation, belonging and identity while embodying the maximalist brutalism of my cultural heritage.
Maqamat asks us to see heritage as sacred not only in its rigid forms, but in the voices and gestures that reshape its boundaries.
